The Editor's Desk...

It's that time of year. Lent. The time when we tighten our belts and generally try to shake out and brush off our spiritual lives.

I'm afraid, however, that this issue of Ruach is anything but Lenten--it's chock full of rich and rewarding things.

We've got Louie Crew's eyewitness account of weathering a political mob in Haiti with none other than Archbishop Desmond Tutu at his side, Sally Bucklee's wise words on the neglected issue of inclusive language, and Ann VanDervoort's energetic and moving story of her involvement with EWC.

We've got the full text of Bono's address at the National Prayer Breakfast--long but worth every word. And many other gems for you to discover for yourselves.

Sometimes it's just a downright pleasure to be an editor.

But I'd like to draw your special attention to the box on page 13, where you'll find clear and specific suggestions as to how you and your church can become directly and personally involved in meeting the Millennium Development Goals.

Most of us, after all, have good intentions, but we're not quite sure how to go about it, so we put it off until we have more time.

And when do we ever have more time?

That's the beauty of the MDGs. Every individual or group can decide it's own time commitment,
its own amount to raise or donate. And no contribution is too small. This is something we can all do. Something we can all do together.

Do you have two addresses where you live at different times of the year? If yu haven't given us both addresses and the dates when you switch each year, you may be missing some issues of Ruach (or we may be spending First Class postage to replace the one the Postal Service threw away).
